LAS VEGAS - UNLV's contingent had varied success during the first day of the 2003 Women's Tennis Fall Invitational, which opened at the Fertitta Tennis Complex Friday.

Picking up wins in singles were Anne Claire Ortiz-Luis in the second flight (6-4, 6-0 over Karen Kmiec of Northern Arizona) and Claire Smith in the fourth flight (who advanced by default). Also, Lisa Lester of UNLV advanced with a bye in the fifth flight. However, both Lady Rebel doubles teams were defeated.

The semifinals for the singles are Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. Finals for doubles play will follow. The singles finals are set for Sunday. Play in the losers' bracket will also begin Saturday.
