Swimmers Sweep Florida Tri-Meet

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept a tri-meet held at Florida Atlantic University on Saturday afternoon at the FAU pool.

The Rebel men defeated College of Charleston 177-73 and downed Florida Atlantic 141-77. The women's team took College of Charleston 211-50 and Florida Atlantic 134.5-102.5.

The women's team opened the meet with a win in the 400 medley relay. The team of Jessie Bradshaw, Shayna Burns, Julie Unrau and Katie Wronn won in a time of 3:56.59.

The Rebel men followed suit with a 400 medley relay win. The team of Jonathan Hugo, Bjorn Eriksson, Michael Day and Joe Bartoch finished in 3:25.64.

Alyson Noble and Lani Seaman went 1-2 in the 1000 Free. Noble won in 10:25.99, while Seaman took second in 10:42.59. Noble also won the 500 free in 4:58.89.

Kevin Williams and Kyle Tannehill also went 1-2 in the 1000 free for the men. Williams took first in 9:52.94 and Tannehill finished in 9:54.24.

John Byers won the 200 free in 1:44.75, while Michael Day took third in 1:46.67.

UNLV swept the 100 back, 100 breast and 200 fly on both the men's and women's side. Jessie Bradshaw and Jonathan Hugo won the 100 back. Bradshaw won in 1:00.09, while Hugo went 52.45. Adam Martinson took second for the men in 53.09.

Shanyna Burns and Patrick Adams won the 100 breast, Burns in 1:05.37 and Adams in 57.33. Bjorn Eriksson also took second in 58.70.

Julie Unrau took the 200 fly in 2:06.06, while Michael Day won in 1:53.52. Unrau also won the 100 fly in 56.98.

Joe Bartoch and John Byers went 1-2 in the 100 free. Bartoch won in 47.69 and Byers took second in 47.81.

The Rebel men also took the top three spots in the 200 back with Adam Martinson winning the event in 1:53.11. Tiger Christian finished second in 1:58.94, while David Rodriguez took third in 1:59.29.

Rounding out the day's winners, Kaileen Gersper took the 200 breast in 2:29.80, while Sophia Seanez won the 400 IM in 4:56.28.

UNLV returns home Thursday for a tri-meet of their own with Wyoming and Nevada, Reno. The meet is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Buchanan Natatorium.
