The UNLV women's basketball team, off to its best-ever start in the Mountain West at 3-0, and with a 14-2 record, will be looking to post its best overall start in over 11 years as they take on Air Force (3-13, 0-3) on Thursday at 7 pm (MST) in Colorado Springs, Colo. Foremost on the minds of the Lady Rebels will be avenging a shocking loss to the Falcons last year in Colorado Springs, as Shawna Neff's layup with 11 seconds left gave Air Force a 73-32 upset over UNLV on Jan. 30, 2003. It was the first-win ever in MWC play for Air Force over the Lady Rebels.
UNLV is one of two undefeated teams in the conference (along with Utah), is riding a nine-game win streak, which is fifth-best in the nation, are 11-0 at home this year, and are receiving votes in this week's AP Top 25 Coaches' Poll. They are dominating the conference statistics, as a Lady Rebel leads the conference in six of the 12 categories, including scoring, rebounding, and blocks. A Lady Rebel has also been named MWC Player of the Week six out of 10 weeks this season.
The Lady Rebels have been on a tear offensively, scoring 74.6 points per game, and have averaged a blistering 78.3 ppg in conference action. UNLV is a perfect 12-0 when they score 70 or more points, all but two of their 14 wins this year have been by 10 points or more, and their +14.3 winning margin is also top in the conference.
UNLV has also been very successful on the boards, leading the MWC with a +8.8 rebounding margin (14th in the nation), and also leads the conference in steals with 9.8 spg.
