Rebels Tied For Third After Nelson's First Round

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV men's golf team shot an opening-round 3-over-par 279 on Friday at the Nelson Invitational at the par 69, 6,444-yard Stanford Golf Course and is tied with Notre Dame for third place after the first day of competition.

UNLV senior Ryan Moore led the Rebels with a 2-under 67 and is tied with Georgia State's Steve Tiley for second place, two shots back of leader Spencer Levin of New Mexico.

Georgia State leads the tournament after shooting a 1-under 275. New Mexico is in second place, one shot back.

Other Rebel competitors are: Jarred Texter (T16; 70), Travis Whisman (T21; 71), Matt Kinsinger (T21; 71) and Sam Hunt (T35; 72).

The tournament continues on Saturday and concludes Sunday with 18 holes each day.
