Oct. 31, 2004

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV men's golf team will play in its final tournament of the fall starting on Monday at the UH/Turtle Bay Intercollegiate being held at the Arnold Palmer (par 72, 7,199 yards) and George Fazio (par 72, 6,535 yards) courses at the Links at Turtle Bay Resort in Kahuku, Hawaii.

UNLV, which is competing in its fourth tournament of the year, will be joined in the field by Cal State Stanislaus, Central Oklahoma, Hawaii, Hawaii-Hilo, Idaho, Oregon State, Osaka, Portland, St. Mary's, Santa Clara, UC Riverside, San Diego, San Francisco, Tulane, Virginia, Washington State and Weber State.

Competing for the Rebels will be Jarred Texter, Travis Whisman, Ryan Keeney, Matt Kinsinger and Sam Hunt.

Hawaii and South Carolina tied for the team title in last year's Turtle Bay Intercollegiate with South Carolina's Robert Svensson winning medalist honors. The Rebels did not play in this tournament last year.

UNLV has not won an event this year as a team, but has finished in each of its three tournaments this season in the top 10 including a second-place finish at the Nelson Invitational in Stanford, Calif., and a third-place effort at the Tucker Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.

Teams comprised of five individuals will play 18 holes each day (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) with the four low scores each day counting toward the team score.
