KAHUKU, Hawaii - The UNLV men's golf team shot a first-round 2-under-par 286 on Monday to take the lead at the Turtle Bay Intercollegiate at the Arnold Palmer Course (par 72, 7,199 yards) at the Links at Turtle Bay Resort.
Central Oklahoma and UC Riverside are tied for second, just one shot back of UNLV at 1-under. Virginia is fourth at 1-over, while host Hawaii rounds out the top five at 3-over.
Travis Whisman led the Rebels with a 3-under 69 and is tied for second, one shot off the lead. Brendan Steele from UC Riverside has the first-round lead at 5-under.
Other Rebel scores: Ryan Keeney (T11; 72, E), Sam Hunt (T11; 72, E), Matt Kinsinger (T24; 73, +1) and Jarred Texter (T30; 74, +2).
The tournament will continue with 18 holes on Tuesday and conclude with 18 on Wednesday.
