Climbing To The Lead

HENDERSON, Nev. - UNLV fired the lowest round of the day as a team to vault to the top of the leader board after the second round of the Las Vegas Founders Showdown, held at the par-72, 6,194 yard Anthem Country Club in Henderson, Nev.

The Rebels shot a plus-four 292 as a team to take the lead in a 17-team field that features four of the top-25 teams in the nation. UNLV has a two-day total of 588 (+12), six strokes better than second-place Texas Tech, which has a team total of 594 (+18).

Leading the way for the Rebels was senior Hwanhee Lee, who carded a one-under 71 to move her into a three-way tie for first place after two rounds at 145 (+1). Maria Ohlsson of Missouri and Jessica Potter of San Francisco are tied with Lee.

Lee's one-under round was one of seven sub-par rounds Tuesday, as five other golfers also shot a 71. Tuesday's low round belonged to Marla Troester of Texas Tech, who shot a three-under 69. Troester started the day in a tie for 67th but moved all the way up to 21st with her sizzling round.

Rebel sophomore Seema Sadekar is just one stroke off Lee's pace after Sadekar fired an even-par 72 for a two-round total of 146 (+2). She is tied for fourth place with Salanee' Henderson of UC Irvine. Elena Kurokawa is two-strokes behind first place after shooting par in the second round as well. Kurokawa has a two-day total of 147 (+3). Allison Chell shot a five-over 77 (150, +6) and Tina Mabanta shot a plus-six 78 (162, +18) to round out the Rebels.

First-day leader Washington faltered, as the third-ranked Huskies shot a plus-17 305, which was 11 strokes worse than their first round 294. Washington is tied with No. 18 Stanford for third with a two-round total of 599 (+23). UC Irvine is in fifth place with a 603 (+27) after two rounds.

Also competing as individuals for the Rebels in the second round were Christine Hentzer (74, +2), Young Pak (78, +6), Erin McGough (89, +17) and Ayeesha Kosugi (89, +17).

Wednesday's final round is a shotgun start that will get underway at 8:30 a.m. (PST) at Anthem Country Club.
