LAS VEGAS, Nev. - UNLV women's golf has received signed national letters of intent from three student-athletes who will join the Rebel golf team next fall, head coach Missy Ringler announced Tuesday.
Sooji Cho, Da-Sol Chung and Grace Woo make up the trio that has signed with the Rebels during the early signing period and will began competing during the 2005-06 season.
"This is the best recruiting class that I have ever had as a head coach," Ringler said. "All three players are essentially ranked in the top-15 of their senior class. I feel very confident of where the program is headed and this class will help us to continue to climb toward the top."
Cho is from Glendale, Calif., and is currently the 8th-ranked junior golfer in the country according to Golfweek. She had four top-six finishes on the AJGA tour this past summer, including winning the True Temper Junior Open held in Patterson, Calif.
Woo, who is from Burbank, Calif., is rated the 14th-best junior golfer by Golfweek. Woo finished in the top-five in three AJGA events during the 2004 summer. She qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championships, advancing to the round of 16 before losing to the eventual champion. Woo finished in second at the California high school championships this past fall.
"It is great to sign two of the top players in this recruiting class," Ringler said. "Both have had decorated careers and have the type of game that will allow them to be very successful at the college level."
Chung is from Seoul, Korea, where she is currently a member of the Korean National Team. She played in one AJGA event during the summer of 2003, finishing third at the Needham Junior. Chung also competed in the 2004 Nevada Women's Open, finishing in a tie for fifth. Her three-round score of 215 (-1) was the lowest amateur score in the event.
"I'm very excited about Da-Sol," Ringler said. "Just signing Grace and Sooji would have been an excellent class, but bringing in a player like Da-Sol along with those two is extremely exciting. There is no doubt in my mind that Da-Sol would join these two at the top of the senior class."
