Coming off an eight-day break for Christmas, the UNLV Lady Rebels are ready to get back to action as they look for their first win streak of the season in Thursday's game against Central Connecticut State at 7 pm in the Cox Pavilion. With an even 5-5 record, UNLV has yet to either win or lose two straight games all season, as continuing injuries have wrecked havoc with the Lady Rebel lineup.
Despite being outrebounded in its last game and allowing Nevada, Reno to shoot 48% from the floor, UNLV won by taking care of the ball, turning it over a season low 11 times while forcing 20 turnovers. The Lady Rebels also rode the play of Las Vegas freshman forward Sequoia Holmes, who tied her career-high with 13 points and was 5-of-5 in the second half, which included a steal and layup with 26 seconds left to extend the UNLV lead to four points.
Several milestones could be reached in Thursday's game, as senior forward RanDee Henry is four points away from scoring her 1,500th point in her four-year career at Detroit and UNLV (she has 759 as a Lady Rebel). A win would also be Regina Miller's 125th as the coach of the Lady Rebels (and 185th in her coaching career), while it would also be the 575th win in school history (574-290).
Thursday's game is the fourth of a seven-game homestand for UNLV, after its 66-60 win over Nevada, Reno on Dec. 22 in the Thomas & Mack Center. Following New Year's, UNLV hosts Canisius, High Point, and Northern Colorado, before beginning Mountain West conference play with three straight road games.
