DETROIT - UNLV's four Michigan natives outscored host Detroit by a point as the Lady Rebels cruised to an 82-49 victory in Calihan Hall on Saturday afternoon. Playing in the state of Michigan for the first time in the program's history, UNLV led by 17 at the half to improve to 3-3 on the year, while Detroit fell to 1-4.
Current Lady Rebel. former Detroit player (2000-02), and one of three Detroit natives on the team, senior forward RanDee Henry poured in a game-high 24 points and added nine rebounds to lead the UNLV effort. The other two Detroit natives, Nejlah Clark and Latosha Pace, scored four points each, while Sheena Moore of nearby Lansing poured in 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting, giving the Michigan quartet 50 combined points. UNLV shot a season-high 53.7% (29-54) for the game, were 21-of-27 (77.8%) at the line, and dominated the boards, holding a 47-24 advantage. The Lady Rebels also finished with 12 steals, though they turned the ball over 23 times to 20 for the Titans.
The Lady Rebels never trailed in the game, though Titan Lindsey Pazquinzo kept the game close in the first half. She scored Detroit's first eight points, and had 15 in the first half, with nine off treys, while Katie Solner's layup with 5:14 on the clock brought them within three at 28-25. UNLV then put the game away with a 15-1 run to end the half, started by a pair of Sequoia Holmes free throws, and finished when Holmes blocked Shawana Stubblefied's shot with six seconds in the half. She threw a pass ahead to Nikki Hitchens who laid the ball in at the buzzer and was fouled for a three-point play, making the score 43-26 for UNLV at halftime.
Holding a 55-34 lead five minutes into the second half, UNLV made sure there would be no comeback for the home team as the Lady Rebels used a 17-2 run over the next eight minutes, taking its largest lead of the game at 36 on a layup from Henry to make the score 72-36 with 7:12 on the clock.
Pasquinzo finished with 22 points for the game on 8-of-22 shooting. She was the only Titan in double figures, while Solner added seven points.
The Lady Rebels remain in the state to take on the University of Michigan on Monday at 7 pm.
