Henry Rallies Lady Rebels

SAN DIEGO - Junior forward RanDee Henry scored 16 second half points to help UNLV recover from a seven-point halftime deficit and rally past San Diego State 65-56 on Saturday afternoon in Mountain West Conference women's basketball action from Cox Arena. The Lady Rebels improved to 17-4 overall, matching their season win total from last year, and remained tied for second in the MWC with New Mexico at 6-2. San Diego State fell to 7-14, 2-6 in the conference.

The Lady Rebels trailed 31-24 after the first half, but began the second on an 18-2 run over the first six minutes. Henry scored 11 of UNLV's 18 points during the run, after being held to just one point in the first half, and her layup at 13:56 made the score 42-33. UNLV forced seven turnovers during the six-minute run, after causing just seven in the first half. San Diego State recovered from its scoring drought, and cut the lead to three twice, the last on Ashlee Dunlap's jumper to make the score 54-51 with 5:38 left in the game. Sheena Moore answered back with a trey on the other end, and following a layup from Veronica Shaw, UNLV scored six unanswered for a 10-point lead, 63-53, with 2:19 left in the game.

The lead changed hands six times in the first 16 minutes of the game, with neither team leading by more then four points. With San Diego State holding a 25-24 lead, the Aztecs scored the last six points of the half, including a buzzer-beater layup from Courtney Fritz to take a 31-24 edge into halftime.

Moore led the Lady Rebels with 18 points, while Henry posted her eighth double-double of the year with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Sherry McCracklin also scored 17 points to go along with eight rebounds, as UNLV's "Big Three" combined for 52 of UNLV's 65 total points. The Lady Rebels shot 49% for the game, and held a 36-25 edge on the boards, though they turned the ball over 22 times.

Dunlap paced the Aztecs with 18 points, while Michelle Elliott posted 11. SDSU shot 50% for the game, but were 1-of-10 from three-point range, and hit just 3-of-11 at the line.

The Lady Rebels will next take on Wyoming on Thursday, February 19 at 7 pm (MST) in Laramie, Wyo.
