UNLV Begins Arizona Tourney In Fifth Place

TUCSON, Ariz. - The UNLV women's golf team shot 306 in the opening round of the Wildcat Invitational on Monday and sit in fifth place.

The Rebels trail first-round leader Ohio State by 21 strokes. The Buckeyes shot a one-over par 285 at the par-71, 6,238-yard Arizona National Golf Club.

"I'm happy with where we're at," UNLV head coach Missy Ringler said. "We struggled a bit on the back nine after a 45-minute rain delay, but all in all I think we are in good position."

OSU also boasted the individual leader, Allison Hanna, who rounded the links in 68 strokes.

UNLV's top individuals were Seema Sadekar and Elena Kurokawa, both of whom shot 75.

Rounding out the Rebels' scores were Sunny Oh, who shot 76; Young Pak, who carded an 80; and Hwanhee Lee, whose 82 was not counted toward the team total.

Junior Christine Hentzner, competing as an individual, shot an 88.

Second-round play is slated to begin at 8:00 a.m. MST.
