Coming off a disappointing road loss at Colorado State (79-65), which dropped the Lady Rebels from their second place standing, the UNLV (18-5, 7-3 MWC) women's basketball team comes into Thursday night looking to both move back into a tie for second place and avenge its first MWC loss of the season as the team takes on New Mexico (16-7, 8-2 MWC) in the Cox Pavilion at 7:30 pm. Its also 2 for 1 night, as fans can buy one ticket and get another free. Adults are $5, seniors and faculty/staff are $2, while kids under 12 are free.
Earlier this season, New Mexico rallied from seven down with four minutes left to hand UNLV a 70-66 loss in Albuquerque on Jan. 31, which had been the Lady Rebels first loss in MWC play this year. New Mexico currently stands at 8-2 in the league, one game ahead of the Lady Rebels.
The Lady Rebels return to the Cox Pavilion tonight after a three-game road trip, and look to continue their success in the Cox, where they are a perfect 10-0 this season (12-1 overall home record), and 29-3 all-time. On the other hand, the Lobos are 4-4 on the road this season, and 1-11 all-time against UNLV in Las Vegas (0-4 in MWC play).
The game matches offense and defense, as UNLV is the top scoring offense in the MWC, leading the league in both scoring (73.0 ppg, currently ahead of MWC record pace) and field goal percentage (45.0%), while New Mexico leads the nation in scoring defense (51.4 ppg) and field goal defense (33.2%).
Having reached 18 wins against Wyoming in its last game, UNLV has surpassed last year's win total, and is on pace for its second 20-win season in the last 12 years.
