Coming off a dissapointing loss at New Mexico on Jan. 31, its first in Mountain West Conference play, the UNLV Women's Basketball team (15-3, 4-1 MWC) will look to start another win streak as they host BYU on Thursday at 7:30 pm in the Cox Pavilion. Despite the setback in Albuquerque, which broke a 10-game win streak for UNLV, the Lady Rebels are still off to their best-ever start in the MWC, and hope to stay within a game of first place Utah with a matchup against the Utes coming up at home on Sunday. On the other hand, the BYU Cougars (11-8 overall) are hoping to get back into the conference race after a surprising 1-4 MWC start.
UNLV is 11-0 at home this season, and is 28-3 all-time in the Cox Pavilion. The Lady Rebels are dominating the conference statistics, as a Lady Rebel leads the conference in seven of the 12 categories, including scoring, rebounding, and blocks. A Lady Rebel has also been named MWC Player of the Week six out of 10 weeks this season.
The Lady Rebels have been on a tear offensively, scoring 75.1 points per game, and have averaged a blistering 78.4 ppg in conference action. UNLV is a perfect 13-0 when they score 70 or more points, all but two of their 14 wins this year have been by 10 points or more, have reached 90 points three times this season, and their +14.4 winning margin is also top in the conference.
The series has been in BYU's advantage recently, as the Cougars have won seven of the last eight meetings, but are 0-1 in the Cox Pavilion.
