ATLANTA, Ga. - UNLV junior forwards RanDee Henry and Sherry McCracklin were named as finalists for the 2004 Kodak/WBCA All-America Basketball Team, it was announced on Wednesday by the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association and the Eastman Kodak Company.
The two Lady Rebels were selected to the Region 7 team, marking the first time in school history UNLV has had two teammates selected to the All-Region Team. They become the fourth and fifth Lady Rebel to earn Kodak All-Region honors, joining Pauline Jordan (1988-89), Linda Fr?hlich (1999-00, 2000-01, 2001-02), and Constance Jinks (2002-03). By being selected to the All-Region team, both Henry and McCracklin will earn Honorable All-American honors as well.
Henry, a 6-1 junior forward of Detroit, Mich., and first year Lady Rebel after transferring from Detroit Mercy, won the Mountain West Conference Newcomer of the Year award after leading the conference in scoring at 18.5 ppg and finishing second in rebounding with 8.2 rpg. McCracklin, a 6-2 junior forward of Hazel Crest, Ill., who led the conference in rebounding (10.2 rpg), blocks (1.56 bpg), and finished third in steals (2.04 spg), while also scoring 14.1 ppg, was the MWC Co-Defensive Player of the Year. Both were also named to the All-MWC First Team on Monday. The two combined for 23 double-doubles for the year (12 for McCracklin, 11 for Henry).
Joining Henry and McCracklin on the Region 7 team was Louisiana Tech's Amisha Carter and Trina Feirson, Eastern Washington's Kathleen Nygaard, and Utah's Kim Smith.
The NCAA Division I Kidad/WBCA All-America Women's Basketball Team will be announced during the Kodak/WBCA All-America Team Press Conference at the New Orleans Hyatt at 9:45 am (CST) on Saturday. WBCA member coaches of the Kodak/WBCA All-America Selection Committee in each of the eight WBCA geographical regions select the Kodak/WBCA All-America Team.
UNLV finished the regular season with a 21-6 overall record and a school record 10-4 mark in the MWC. The third-seed in the 2004 MWC Tournament, the Lady Rebels defeated BYU 60-57 in the quarterfinals on Wednesday night, and will face second-seed Utah on Friday at 2:30 pm (MST) in the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colo.
