February A Sunny Month

March 24, 2004

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV sophomore golfer Sunny Oh was named the Mountain West Conference Co-Golfer of the Month for February, the league announced Wednesday.

Oh, of Seoul, Korea, earned the award after leading the No. 21 Rebels to a fifth-place finish at the Wildcat Invitational in Tucson, Ariz., at the end of last month where they defeated four ranked teams. The Rebels' All-American tied for 15th overall, improving her score each day of the tourney (76-74-72--222).

Off to the hottest start of any spring in the program's history, the Rebels followed their fifth-place finish in Tucson with a runner-up showing at the Spartan Invitational in Salinas, Calif., and a fifth-place effort at the prestigious Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas. UNLV has defeated ranked teams such as No. 3 California, No. 12 Washington, No. 13 Tulsa, and No. 16 Oklahoma head-to-head, and have twice beaten No. 7 Arizona, No. 24 Stanford and No. 29 Pepperdine.

Oh, who was once before so honored by the league in October of 2002, shared the honor with New Mexico's Kalin Downs. Downs also helped her squad to a strong finish in a nationally ranked field.

The Rebels next head to St. George, Utah, to defend their title at the BYU Dixie Classic on April 5-6.
