After playing its first three games in the Postseason Women's NIT on its homecourt, the UNLV women's basketball team goes on the road for the first time as they will take on the Iowa State Cyclones on Sunday afternoon in Ames, Iowa in the WNIT semifinals. The game will tip-off at 2 pm (CST), with radio coverage provided in Las Vegas on KSHP 1400 AM, as well as through the UNLV athletic website (www.UNLVRebels.com).
This is UNLV's first-ever appearance in the WNIT semifinals, previously the best UNLV had advanced was to the 2001 second round. The Lady Rebels' three wins in this year's tournament are also their most ever in postseason play, topping the 1975-76 team that won two of three games in the school's first WNIT appearance, back in 1975-76.
UNLV brings a 25-7 record into Sunday's game, the most wins of the teams still alive in the tournament. A win would give the Lady Rebels their most victories since the 1989-90 squad that set a school record with 28 (28-3, final national ranking of fifth). Iowa State is 18-14, and have won six straight at home in Hilton Coliseum. The Cyclones rank ninth among the nation's leaders in home attendance, averaging 8,063 in Hilton Coliseum.
The Lady Rebels are not only meeting a team from the Big 12 for the first time since a 71-67 loss to Oklahoma State in the 2001 WNIT second round, its also their first game east of the Mountain Time Zone this season.
UNLV is winning off its offense, averaging a MWC-high 70.8 ppg and 44.4% shooting from the floor. They are 16-0 when they score 70 or more points this season.
