SUNRIVER, Ore. - UNLV ended New Mexico's four-year reign as league champion with a two-stroke victory over the Lobos for the 2004 Mountain West Conference Women's Golf title today on the Meadows Course (Par 71/5,851) at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore. The Rebels entered the final day with a one-stroke lead over New Mexico before firing an MWC Championship single round record of eight-under 276 today (UNM 280 in 2003). UNLV finished with a team total of 856 (+4), breaking the 54-hole championship record held by New Mexico in 2001 (861). New Mexico placed second with a final round 277 and a three-day total of 858 (+6). BYU finished third with a score of 880, followed by San Diego State (885), Colorado State (890) and Wyoming (978).
Individually, Kailin Downs of New Mexico and Seema Sadekar of UNLV broke the championship's individual single round record with identical scores of five-under 66 today (67 by Katrina Leckovic of New Mexico in 2003).
UNLV sophomore Sunny Oh captured medalist honors after carding a three-under 68 in the final round and a three-day total of two-under 211. Oh won the title by two strokes over New Mexico teammates Katrina Leckovic and Shannon Johnson. Leckovic and Johnson tied for second with an even 71 apiece today and a 54-hole totals of 213 (E).
