LAS VEGAS - UNLV's Gyorgyi Zsiros is the only three-time honoree as the 2004 All-Mountain West Conference women's tennis team was announced before the league's annual tournament, which is being hosted by San Diego State.
Zsiros, a junior from Budapest, Hungary, is currently ranked 105th nationally. She has posted a 13-8 record at the No. 1 position in dual matches this spring, including going 5-2 vs. MWC opponents. She is only the third Lady Rebel to become a three-time all-conference honoree in history, joining four-timer Marianne Vallin (1994-97) and former teammate Paulina Janus (2001-03).
Also tabbed for singles from UNLV was junior Anne Claire Ortiz-Luis who has rung up a 15-6 dual-match slate at the No. 3 spot during her first year with the program. The former transfer from Cal Poly Pomona leads the team in overall victories with 22.
In doubles, Zsiros and partner Claire Smith were one of six duos to be voted All-MWC. The pair stands 15-6 in dual matches at No. 2 in the lineup.
New Mexico standout Maja Kovacek was named MWC Player of the Year while Laura Nigro of Air Force won the MWC Sportsmanship Award for the second straight year.
No freshman of the year was selected this season and the coach of the year will be announced after Saturday's championship match.
