Women's Basketball

Four More Years!

Aug. 23, 2004

LAS VEGAS - UNLV women's basketball head coach Regina Miller, who has guided the Lady Rebels to the postseason in each of the last four years, has received a three-year contract extension, the athletics department announced on Monday. Miller's new contract will keep her at the helm of the Lady Rebels at least through the 2007-08 season. "Given the short time I've been here, I'm very pleased with the progress of the women's basketball program under Coach Miller", UNLV Athletics Director Mike Hamrick said. "This past season was very rewarding for our players, coaches, and fans. Coach Miller and I both expect the program to win championships in our conference and advance to NCAA Tournament play. This contract extension is a way to show our support to Coach Miller and the exceptional job she and her staff has done." "I'm extremely committed to UNLV and our yearly goal in moving women's basketball towards becoming a consistent top-25 program," said Miller. "I am very pleased with the continued commitment the administration has given to both me and to our program." Miller is the third-winningest coach in UNLV women's basketball history with a 119-61 record. Last season, she coached the team to a 26-8 record, tied for the third-best victory total in school history, and to a championship runner-up finish in the WNIT. UNLV has also played in the 2001 and 2003 WNIT and the 2002 NCAA Tournament under Miller, and has averaged just under 20 wins per season in her six years as head coach. Miller has coached three players to honorable mention All-American honors, while Linda Fröhlich was a third-team All-American selection in 2001-02. In addition, Miller has seen two of her players drafted by the WNBA. UNLV opens the 2004-05 season in the WBCA/BTI Classic against Minnesota on Nov. 14 in Seattle, Wash.
