Koloskie Chosen For NCAA Committee

LAS VEGAS - UNLV Senior Associate Athletics Director Jerry Koloskie has been appointed to be a member of the NCAA Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports. His services began Sept. 1, 2004 and will continue until Sept. 1, 2008.

The CSMAS is made up of 21 members and two subcommittees. One subcommittee is the Drug-Education and Drug Testing Subcommittee and its responsibilities are to provide the NCAA membership direction on alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuse prevention programs, research and grants, and to oversee the NCAA drug-testing program.

The second subcommittee is the Sports Science Safety Subcommittee which provides guidance on sports specific health and safety research and policy issues. The CSMAS is also involved in reviewing and commenting on legislation regarding sports rules and regulations with health and safety implications.

In his role as senior associate athletics director at UNLV, Koloskie oversees all internal day-to-day operations of the athletic department. In addition to serving as the sport administrator for the men's and women's basketball teams, he is also responsible for the oversight for UNLV's athletic training and strength and conditioning departments.

Koloskie came to UNLV over 20 years ago to become co-head athletic trainer. He spent 15 years as head athletic trainer. In 1992, he became director of athletic training and four years later was promoted to assistant athletics director of sports medicine and operations.

Koloskie is responsible for developing the school's clinical sports medicine program and turning it into one of the premier programs for both undergraduate and graduate students, and developing UNLV's Drug Prevention, Education, Testing and Counseling Program. Koloskie also presently serves on the UNLV Alcohol Task Force Committee and is a licensed alcohol and drug counselor.
