Record 163 Rebels Named MW Scholar-Athlete Award Recipients

Three UNLV teams set records for their respective programs, while two others tied their previous benchmark

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – A record 163 UNLV student-athletes were named recipients of the 2025-26 Mountain West Scholar-Athlete Award, the conference announced Monday. This surpassed the department's previous record of 151 set in 2025.

To be eligible for the honor, student-athletes must have competed at least two semesters or three quarters at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better. 

Football led the department with 35 honorees. In addition, three programs set their own respective records, including baseball's 16, softball's 15 and women's golf's eight, while track & field's 23 and volleyball's 11 each tied their top marks. 

Joining the double-digit recipient list, women's swimming & diving saw 14 student-athletes honored, cross country had 12 student-athletes honored and women's soccer's 11 student-athletes received the award.

Rounding out the list of honorees were women's basketball with six, women's tennis with five, men's basketball with four, men's tennis with two and men's golf with one.

Overall, 1,797 student-athletes earned the honor, which included 272 individuals who achieved a 4.00 cumulative grade point average over two or more terms.

2025-26 ACADEMIC YEAR: Along with the MW Scholar-Athlete distinction, 221 UNLV student-athletes were named to the Academic All-MW Team for the academic year, which increased from last year's 194 honorees. Along with their Scarlet & Gray counterparts in the MW, men's swimming and diving had 13 student-athletes land on the MPSF All-Academic Team and men's soccer saw eight student-athletes named to the Academic All-WAC Team.
