OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round six-over-par 286 on Monday to finish in ninth place at the Ping/Golfweek Preview held at the par 70, 7,124-yard Caves Valley Golf Club.
The Rebels (290-292-286-868), who were tied for seventh entering the final round, finished 20 shots behind team champion Oklahoma State (288-276-284-848), which won with a team score of eight-over. Georgia Tech finished second, four shots back at 12-over. Third through ninth place was decided by a total of seven shots.
Individually for the Rebels, Ryan Moore (73-70-66-209) made a final-round charge to move from a tie for 15th place to finish the tournament tied for third. His final-round four-under 66 was the second-lowest individual score of the day. John Holmes of Kentucky shot 65 on Monday for the low score of the day.
Oklahoma State's Pablo Martin (69-66-71-206) held on for the individual title at four-under, beating Texas' Matthew Rosenfeld (70-71-67-208) by two strokes. Moore finished three back at one-under, tying Arizona State's Jesse Mueller (67-71-71-209).
Other Rebel scores: Jarred Texter (T24; 73-74-71-218), Ryan Keeney (T43; 76-72-74-222), Andres Gonzales (T50; 70-76-78-224) and J.C. Deacon (T54; 74-76-75-225).
