Coming off a huge win on Thursday night in a 63-60 upset over first place New Mexico, the UNLV women's basketball team (10-8, 1-3) hopes to begin another win streak as they host Air Force on Saturday afternoon at 3 pm, while also looking for a chance to move up in the conference standings. The only team in the MWC to open with three games on the road, UNLV lost all three, including two by just three points, but a win Saturday could move them into a tie for fourth place.
A win would also give the Lady Rebels seven straight wins at home. UNLV is 8-3 in Las Vegas this season, but are 3-0 in the Thomas & Mack, the site of Saturday's game. Of the three losses, two are to teams currently ranked in the top 20 (No. North Carolina, No. 18 Iowa State).
UNLV is also looking for its first 70 point game in conference play, after scoring 80+ in four straight games to end the non-conference season. The top scoring team in the MWC, UNLV is averaging 70.2 ppg. In their win against the Lobos on Thursday, it was a matchup of the top offense in the conference and the top defense in the nation (48.9 ppg), but offense won out as UNLV became just the third team all year to score 60 or more points against New Mexico.
The win not only broke a two-game losing streak to the Lobos, it also broke a three-game losing streak for the Lady Rebels, their longest of the year and longest since the 1998-99 season.
Junior guard Sheena Moore is just 24 points away from becoming the 14th Lady Rebel to score 1,000 points at UNLV, as she stands at 976 entering the game.
