Rebels Head North For Non-Conference Affair At UNR

After two matches in a two-week span at home, the Rebels hit the road for three-straight in five days. First up for UNLV (9-8) is a visit to its in-state rival, Nevada, Reno (12-6). Something has got to give in the match as both teams are riding winning streaks of at least two matches. The Rebels will enter the Virginia Street Gym having won four-straight and six of their last seven. The Wolf Pack have won two-in-a-row and 11 of its last 12.

After the Rebels lost a season-high three-straight matches from Sept. 10-16, the team has turned a 3-7 record into a 9-8 mark with 11 matches left to play in the regular season.

UNLV played its lone match at home last weekend with a 3-0 victory over the visiting Horned Frogs of TCU. With the win, UNLV pushed its winning streak to four matches and has now won six of its last seven. The Rebels won the match with scores of 30-21, 30-24, 30-23.

UNLV out hit TCU 45-to-37 in the kill department and .208-to-.152 in hitting percentage. The Rebels hit higher than .186 in all three of their games, while TCU was held under .128 twice.

The Rebels were led on the offensive by Lauren Miramontes for the third-straight match. Miramontes was the lone attacker in the match to break double-digits in kills, as she had 15. Miramontes had the highest hitting percentage as well, with a .324 average. Michelle Banks nearly hit double-digits as she finished with nine kills, while Kortney Reid and Maria Aladjova had seven apiece. Reid's seven kills are a season- and career-high for the redshirt freshman. Melody Nua threw the ball up for 40 of UNLV's 43 assisted kills.

On the defensive side of the ball, Jada Walker stopped 16 of TCU's attacks and Nua had six (one solo) of UNLV's 16 total blocks.

The MWC season began on Sept. 22, and UNLV has played in six matches and won five with its lone loss coming in a five-gamer versus Colorado State.
