UNLV Heads East For Two MWC Matches In Utah
The Rebels take their four-match Mountain West Conference winning streak on the line with two matches this weekend. First up for UNLV is a Friday affair in Salt Lake City against the Utes of Utah. On Saturday night, BYU hosts the Rebels in Provo. The match against the Cougars has been tabbed as the AVCA's Match of the Week and will be streamed live through the MWC's website (TheMWC.com). CSTV will air the match Sunday at 3 pm PT. Check you local cable or satellite provider for channel availability.
UNLV suffered its first loss of October in a five-game road tilt against Nevada, Reno on Monday night. The loss was the first for the Rebels in five matches, but took place out of conference. Therefore, UNLV's four-match MWC winning streak is still in tact and will be put on the line in consecutive matches this weekend.
Last Match In Review
The Rebels (9-9) suffered their first loss of October Monday night against its in-state rival in Reno, Nev., and had its four-game winning streak snapped. UNLV and Nevada, Reno took turns winning the first four games, but UNR ran away with the fifth game to even the all-time series at seven games apiece. The Wolf Pack (13-6) has now won five straight in the series dating back to the 2001 season. UNR took the five-game match with scores of 27-30, 30-22, 21-30, 30-25, 15-8.
UNR out hit the Rebels .278-to-.191 and racked up eight more kills (76-to-68) in the match. All five games went to the team with the highest hitting percentage and with the least amount of errors. The Wolf Pack made all of its games won count as they hit for percentages of .289, .404 and .500 in the three victories, while UNLV hit for an average of .045, .250 and .056 in the same games, respectively. In the two games the Rebels won the team hit .214 and .353 to UNR's .204 and .108.
UNLV spread its attacks around as five players racked up double-digit kill totals. Lauren Miramontes led the Rebels in kills for the eighth time overall and fourth time in as many matches with her 20 kills. Miramontes' .400 hitting percentage was tops for all Rebels in the match. Maria Aladjova threw down 12 kills, while Michelle Banks (11), Jennifer Johnson (11) and Mariana Pencheva (10) closed out the Rebels with more than 10 kills. Banks picked up the lone double-double for UNLV as she added 11 digs to her 11 kills. Jada Walker tied for the match-high with 23 digs, as Melody Nua equaled the match-high for assists with 53.
