UNLV In Third After Opening Round

PALO ALTO, Calif. - The UNLV women's golf team shot an opening-round 292 (+8) and is third place at the Stanford Pepsi Intercollegiate after Monday's opening round played at the Stanford Golf Course as the 13th-ranked Rebels have three players in the top 20.

UNLV trails the top two teams in the nation No. 1 Duke, which leads with a team total of 283 (-1) and is six shots ahead of No. 2 UCLA, which shot 289 (+5). USC is in fourth (293, +9) and Pepperdine (295, +11) rounded out the top five after 18 holes of play. Amie Cochran of UCLA and Iren Cho of USC share the clubhouse lead after each shot an opening-round 68 (-3).

Rebel freshman Da Sol Chung is tied for 10th with a one-over 72 and leads a trio of Rebels who are in the top 20. Grace Woo and Seema Sadekar are in a group that is tied for 18th, as each carded a 73 (+2) to begin play. Elena Kurokawa, who has finished in the top five in the Rebels' first two tournaments, is tied for 30th after the senior shot an opening round 74 (+3). Young Pak also competed for UNLV and is tied for 92nd after shooting an 84 (+13).

Teams will begin teeing off at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, playing 18 holes on the par-71, 6,025-yard course and the tournament concludes on Sunday with the final 18 holes.
