WINDERMERE, Fla. - Amid strong winds, the fourth-ranked UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round 30-over-par 318 on Tuesday to finish in 15th place at the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational at Isleworth Country Club (par 72, 7,493 yards).
Georgia successfully defended its title by winning the tournament after firing a final-round 14-over 302 to finish the 54-hole event at 8-over 872. Oklahoma State was second, seven shots back at 15-over. Georgia Tech was third at +30, while Arizona State and Wake Forest finished tied for fourth at +35. The Rebels finished at 52-over 916.
Oklahoma State's Pablo Martin earned medalist honors by finishing at 4-under 212, two shots ahead of Georgia's Chris Kirk.
Andres Gonzales finished tied for 11th at 5-over 221 to lead all Rebel individuals. Other Rebel players: Jarred Texter (+14, T45th), C.J. Gatto (+18, T61st), Seung-Su Han (+20, T68th) and Blake Trimble (+27; T80th).
Hurricane Wilma altered the tournament's schedule and instead of 18 holes played over three days, 36 holes were played on Sunday followed by an off-day Monday. Strong winds kept the scoring high during Tuesday's final round with the low round of the day being an even-par 72 turned in by Georgia's Kevin Kisner, who tied for third place. The field average Tuesday was 80.2, compared to 75.03 on Sunday.
The Rebels will be back in action November 7-9 at the University of Hawaii Fall Intercollegiate in Kaneohe, Hawaii.
