On QB Shane Steichen's finger surgery:
"His surgery went very well but it still will be four to six weeks. They are going to do a follow up every Wednesday from here on out and we will see how that all goes."
On the play of new QB Jarrod Jackson, who made his first Division I-A start Saturday:
"I thought Jarrod Jackson played very effectively. He showed excellent leadership for our offense and our team. He prepared himself very well last week."
"Looking at his performance, I wouldn't say I was pleased. I would be pleased if we had won and if we had made the plays to win. He did a lot of good things. Obviously the interception for a touchdown was a negative. That was a big deflator for our team."
On the team learning how to win:
"We have to teach them and it is an ongoing battle of the will, but we have to teach them what it takes to win and how you win. That is an ongoing thing. In that game, we did a lot of things not to win and dug ourselves a hole. In order to learn how to win, you have to eliminate all the ways you can lose."
On his team's confidence after the 1-4 start:
"I think that is always a concern. To me, we are in a one game season. Every game is a one game season. Somehow you have to blot out the past and you have to focus on this game and nothing else."
On being at home after playing the last three games on the road:
"It is good to be home. We are going to use that as a positive. It has been a grind and the trips have been hard. They all have been draining trips."
On San Diego State's win over BYU:
"It got my attention. That was a good win. They have played well the last few weeks. I think that they are definitely a team that is improving."
