LAS VEGAS - The UNLV women's golf team wraps up its fall schedule with the fourth-annual Las Vegas Founders Collegiate Showdown, beginning with the first round Monday at Anthem Country Club.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament runs through Wednesday and features some of the top teams in college and the Rebels are the defending champions. The Rebels won last year's showdown with a score of 875 (+11) and before UNLV's win, New Mexico won the first two showdowns.
Joining 11th-ranked UNLV in the 16-team field are three of the top six programs in the nation in No. 2 UCLA, No. 4 Pepperdine and No. 6 Arkansas. In fact no less than 10 schools currently ranked in Golfweeks' Top 30 will be at the tournament, which will be played for the fourth-straight year at Anthem, a par-72, 6,168-yard course.
UNLV's lineup will consist of Elena Kurokawa, Seema Sadekar, Grace Woo, Da Sol Chung and Allison Chell. Sadekar finished fourth, Kurokawa came in tied for fifth and Chell tied for 35th at last year's showdown. This will be the first home tournament for Woo and Chung, who are both freshmen.
Woo and Chung are both looking to close their first fall season of collegiate golf strong, as both have been in the top 25 of each tournament they have played this fall. Sadekar also is trying to do the same after turning in her best effort of the fall in her last tournament, finishing tied for 28th at the Stanford Pepsi Intercollegiate last week. UNLV has finished in the top six in all three fall tournaments this year.
