LAS VEGAS - For the second straight year the UNLV women's soccer team placed three players on the All-Mountain West Conference first team, as the league announced its year-end awards at the pre-conference tournament banquet on Tuesday night on the campus of UNLV. Jenna Huff, Tanya Roberts, Nickie Olson were all first-team selections, while Katie Carney was named to the second-team. It was the first all-conference honor for Roberts, Olson, and Carney.
Huff. a senior from Huntington Beach, Calif., became the first goalkeeper in MWC history to earn all-conference honors three times, as she returned from a broken foot in August to post four solo shutouts. She finished with a 0.31 GAA in league play, allowing just two goals in 585 minutes of action.
A junior from Fremont, Calif., Roberts is second on the UNLV in scoring this year with 14 points (five goals, four assists), and led the team in league play with three goals and two assists for eight points. She's also been big on offense, scoring three goals and adding one assist, and has been named MWC Defensive Player of the Week three times in 2005.
Carney, a sophomore from Lake Forest, Ill., is leading the team in scoring for the second straight season with 16 points (five goals, six assists). Though she was held scoreless in league play, she posted a team-high three assists against MWC opponents, and her six assists total has tied the school record.
Junior forward Amanda Feigt of Utah garnered Offensive Player of the Year honors, while Ute junior defender Melissa Wayman earned the Defensive Player of the Year award. Adele Letro of Utah was selected as Freshman of the Year, and Utah coach Rich Manning collected Coach of the Year accolades for the second time at the helm of the Utes.
