Final Stats
Fort Worth, Texas - In a four-game match in Fort Worth, Texas, the UNLV Rebels (14-12, 10-4 MWC) fought back from a one-game deficit to overpower a lackluster showing by TCU's attackers. The Rebels overcame the Horned Frogs (15-15, 3-11 MWC) game one win to take the match 29-31, 30-19, 30-24, 30-15. The 10 wins in Mountain West Conference play are the most recorded by a Rebel team since the league formed in 1999. The road victory also established a new mark for road wins (five) in conference play.
In the match, UNLV hit at a .166 clip with a game two high of .238. TCU hit for an average of .010, which is the lowest hitting percentage registered against the Rebels this season. The Horned Frogs' low attacking figure can be attributed to the Rebel defense and 38 errors accumulated by the home squad's attackers. UNLV threw down 55 kills to 40 by TCU. The Rebels had 27 errors in all with game three's nine being the most in any one game. TCU only had one game with its errors in single-digits and that was the first game with seven.
There were 15 ties in game one before TCU broke away for the final two points in a 31-29 victory. The Rebels evened things up for the final time at 29, but a kill and a service ace by TCU ended the game.
In games' two and three the Rebels pushed ahead with identical 10-8 scores and never looked back. In the fourth game, UNLV jumped out to a 5-0 lead and pushed it to double-digits at 20-10 before finishing with a 15-point advantage (30-15).
Melody Nua picked up her sixth double-double of the season with help from her 60 assists and career-high 19 digs.
Lauren Miramontes led the Rebels in kills for the 13th time this season as she threw down 16, while hitting .268. Mariana Pencheva and Maria Aladjova hit double-figures in kills as they hit 12 and 11 winners, respectively.
Jada Walker was one of four Rebels to hit double-digits in digs as she stopped 25 of TCU's attacks. Nua was second with her 19 and was followed by 11 from both Brittani Lumsden and Michelle Banks.
TCU had seven players record kills with each having at least three. Devon Kirk led the Horned Frogs with eight and was closely followed by Gabi McHugh (seven) and Agi Nemeth (seven). Nirelle Hampton assisted on 32 kills. Three players recorded 12 or more digs with Talaya Whitfield leading the defenders with 26.
Next up for UNLV are the final regular season matches of the season. The Rebels close out their MWC slate at home against Utah (Fri., Nov. 18) and #16 BYU (Sat., Nov. 19). Both matches are set to serve it up at 7 pm in the Cox Pavilion.
