200 For Miller

RENO, Nev. - UNLV held its in-state rival to just 19 second-half points and gave head coach Regina Miller her 200th career victory in a 55-41 win at Nevada, Reno in women's collegiate basketball action on Saturday night at Lawlor Events Center.

It was the sixth-straight win for the Lady Rebels over UNR, and improved them to 5-2 on the year, while the Wolf Pack dropped to 1-7. The Lady Rebels held UNR to its lowest score in the 26-game history between the two teams, and forced the Wolf Pack to 33.3% shooting from the floor.

The Wolfpack jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead as UNLV missed its first several shots from the floor. In a low scoring first half, UNR was up by five, 16-11, with just under six minutes to play. A Sheena Moore trey was the first of seven unanswered points for UNLV, and Sherry McCracklin's layup gave the Lady Rebels their first lead of the game, 18-16 with 4:03 on the clock. The 7-0 spurt was part of a 15-6 run to end the first half, and UNLV took a 26-22 edge into halftime.

UNR hung close to begin the second half, and cut the lead to three on a Brandi Fitzgerald layup with 14:51 to play, 33-30. The Lady Rebels then put the game away with a 14-2 run over the next five minutes, capped by a Kisha Lee layup for a 47-32 advantage. UNLV would lead by as much as 17, 51-34, after a short Moore jumper with five minutes to go.

Moore paced the Lady Rebels with 13 points, while McCracklin posted 11 and Lee came off the bench with 10 on 5-of-6 shooting. Faye Muller grabbed four rebounds and finished with a career-high six steals, part of a season-high 15 for UNLV. The Lady Rebels shot 44.2% (23-of-52) from the floor, but were forced into 21 turnovers, and were outrebounded 32-31.

Traci Graham was the lone UNR player in double-figures with 10. Six players all scored four points for the Wolf Pack, including Brandi Fitzgerald, the team's leading scorer who was held to just 1-of-5 from the floor. UNR was forced into 25 turnovers for the game.

UNLV will next host the second annual Duel In The Desert on Dec. 17-18. The eight-team tournament features Notre Dame, NC State, Utah, Arkansas State, Texas A&M, Detroit, Jackson State as well as the host Lady Rebels. UNLV's opening game will be against Jackson State in the first game of the Scarlet Bracket on Saturday at 5 pm. All eight games will be in the Cox Pavilion.
