The Lady Rebels will end 2005 with a pair of doubleheaders in the Thomas & Mack Center, beginning with Thursday night's game against Troy, which is followed the men's game against Loyola Marymount at 7:30 pm. UNLV is looking to begin another win streak after suffering a 25-point loss to Texas A&M in the Cox Pavilion, the worst home loss for the Lady Rebels in four years.
The Thomas & Mack Center has been very friendly for the Lady Rebels recently, as they are 6-0 in the TMC over the past two seasons, including an upset win over 2005 MWC champions New Mexico. UNLV won both of its games in the TMC this esason, 72-66 over Stephen F. Austin and 65-55 over Tennessee Tech to win the Lady Rebel Shootout.
Though the Lady Rebels' scoring has dropped off a little this season, with just a 66.0 ppg average through nine games to rank sixth in the MWC after leading the league in scoring in 2003-04 and 2004-05, UNLV is at the top of the league in several defensive categories. The Lady Rebels are currently leading the conference in blocks (4.67 bpg), they are tied for first in steals (11.0 spg), and are second in rebound margin at +8.1.
One Lady Rebel closing in on a milestone is senior forward Sherry McCracklin, who is just 11 points away from becoming the 16th Lady Rebel to score 1,000 points at UNLV.
UNLV has won eight straight games over the last three years in the stretch of the season post-Christmas through the beginning of the MWC schedule.
