LAS VEGAS - UNLV's Sheena Moore was named the Mountain West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week after leading the Lady Rebels to a pair of wins last week, the conference announced on Monday. It is the first weekly honor of the season for Moore, and the second in her career.
Moore, a 5-7 junior point guard from Lansing, Mich., averaged 15.5 points per game in UNLV's wins over Colorado State and Wyoming. In the victory over Colorado State on Feb. 17, after the Rams took their only lead of the game, 53-51, Moore drove in for a layup and drew a foul with just under eight minutes left. Moore also grabbed a career-high tying eight rebounds and added five assists.
In a 70-66 win over Wyoming on Feb. 19, Moore led all scorers with 20 points, and was 4-of-6 from behind the arc. She scored 12 second half points, including two free throws with 28 seconds left to give UNLV a four-point lead, 68-64.
