TUCSON, Ariz. - Elena Kurokawa sits in a fourth-place tie after two rounds at the Arizona Invitational on Monday afternoon and UNLV is in ninth after 36 holes of golf at the Arizona National Golf Club.
Kurokawa opened play Monday morning with a solid two-over 73 on the par-71, 6,238-yard course, but the junior was just warming up. She fired a three-under 71 in the second round played in the afternoon to finish the day with a total of 141 (-1).
UNLV is in ninth after carding rounds of 303 and 302 for a total of 605. Allison Chell is in 42nd place after shooting back-to-back rounds of 77 for a two-round total of 154 (+12). Seema Sadekar is tied for 46th (74-82-156), Hwanhee Lee is tied for 51st (79-79-158) and Young Pak is in a tie for 62nd (84-78-162). Christine Hentzner also competed for the Rebels, but as an individual meaning her scores did not factor into UNLV's team total. The senior is tied for 37th after shooting rounds of 74 and 79 for a two-round score of 153.
Louise Stahle of No. 2 Arizona State is in first place with one round to go after firing a tournament-low 64 (-7) in her opening round. She followed that with a one-over 72 for a total of 136. Charlotte Mayorkas of UCLA and Violeta Retamoza of Tennessee are both two shots back with scores of 138. No. 3 UCLA leads the 14-team field with a two-round total of 573, and host-Arizona is five shots back with a 578 (289-289).
The teams will close the tournament with 18 holes on Tuesday scheduled to get underway at 7:00 a.m. (PST) with a shotgun start.
