Cougars Roll Over Lady Rebels 74-48

PROVO, Utah - BYU shot over 60 percent for the game and held UNLV to just 30% as the Cougars rolled to a 74-48 victory in Mountain West Conference women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon from the Huntsman Center. With the loss, the Lady Rebels fall to 11-10 overall and 2-5 in league play, leaving them still looking for their first conference win on the road, while the Cougars improved to 13-7, 4-3 in league action.

The Cougars finished the game hitting 32-of-53 (60.4%), including 68% (17-of-25) in the second half in handing UNLV its worst MWC loss since a 74-36 loss at Colorado State in the 2002-03 season. UNLV was also held to its worst shooting performance of the year, hitting just 18-of-60 from the field, including 8-of-34 in the second half for 23.5%. BYU finished with a 42-16 edge in the paint as well.

UNLV actually began the game hitting its first three shots to take a 7-2 edge. BYU answered right back with a 26-4 run over the next nine minutes, as Kubik's third straight layup gave the Cougars a 28-11 lead with 9:59 to play in the half. Down 34-19, UNLV scored eight of the next 10 points, and entered halftime down 36-27.

The Lady Rebels stayed close, and trailed 45-35 with 15 minutes on the clock on a Brittney Thomas jumper. UNLV was held to just seven points though over the next 10 minutes, as a 19-7 Cougar run gave BYU a 64-42 lead with just under five minutes to play.

Sheena Moore and Amy Loftus both scored 10 points to lead the Lady Rebels, while RanDee Henry added eight. UNLV held a 36-31 edge on the boards, mostly thanks to a 21-7 advantage on the offensive glass.

Danielle Chessman was a perfect 7-of-7 from the floor for 14 points for the Cougars, while Dani Kubik also scored 14 points, hitting 6-of-8 off the bench. Also in double figures was Ambrosia Anderson with 10.

The Lady Rebels return to action on Saturday, Feb. 12, as they will host San Diego State at 3 pm in the Cox Pavilion.
