Rebels Wrap Up Spring Opener

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Elena Kurokawa narrowly missed a top-20 finish and the UNLV women's golf team came in 14th overall at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge at Palos Verdes, Calif.

UNLV shot carded a 317 in Wednesday's final round, giving it a three-round total of 943 (+91) on the par-71, 5,912-yard course at Palos Verdes Golf Club.

Kurokawa began the day in a tied for 12th, but shot a 78 (+7), her highest round of the tournament, to finish in a four-way tie for 21st. Kurokawa shot rounds of 75-74-78 to finish with a team-low 227 (+14).

Hwanhee Lee followed Kurokawa, finishing in a tie for 38th with a total of 232 (75-79-78, +19). Tina Mabanta and Young Pak both ended the challenge tied for 70th, shooting 246 (+33). Mabanta fired rounds of 86-79-81 while Pak had scores of 80-86-80 at the tournament. Seema Sadekar rounded out the Rebels with a 78th-place finish, as she had a total of 252 (86-78-88, +39).

Brittany Lang of No. 1 Duke led from wire to wire to claim the individual title, finishing with a three-round total even-par 213. She was the only player to finish par or better in the 81-player field. Lang had rounds of 68, 72 and 73.

No. 10 Pepperdine won the team title with a score of 896 (+44), finishing two strokes ahead of No. 3 UCLA, who had a three-round total of 898. The Blue Devils finished third, carding a 900.

UNLV is off for two weeks before traveling to Tucson, Ariz., for the Wildcat Invitational on Feb. 21-22.
