The UNLV women's basketball team closes out the regular season on Saturday afternoon with a Senior Day contest against the first place Utah Utes, and hope for a victory to end the year with a 7-7 record in conference play. The game will be played in the Cox Pavilion at 3 pm, and will be televised by CSTV (tape delay at 5 pm). The Lady Rebels are already set as either the 4th or 5th seed in next week's MWC Tournament, and will play either Wyoming or BYU at 2:30 pm (MST) in Denver on March 9.
Though the Lady Rebels suffered their first conference loss at home on Thursday to BYU, they still own a 12-4 home record, and look for their 13th win today against Utah. UNLV is 7-7 all-time against the Utes in Las Vegas, though Utah has won the last two meetings, including a 72-55 win in the Thomas & Mack Center on Feb. 8, 2004. This also marks the third straight meeting between the two that will be televised by CSTV. Utah won earlier this year in Salt Lake 63-58, and in the semifinals of the 2004 MWC Tournament, 59-55.
The top scoring team in the conference, UNLV's offense has been a key part in its rebound from a 2-5 start in MWC play. After scoring over 70 points just once in the first half of conference play, the Lady Rebels have scored 70 or more in four of the last six games, all victories. They also been dominating the boards, with a 13.0 rebound margin over the last six games.
Junior guard Sheena Moore became the 14th Lady Rebel to score 1,000 points at UNLV in the game at Utah, and senior forward RanDee Henry is on pace to become the 15th, as she is 11 points away with at least two games left to play this season.
