LAS VEGAS - Six athletes will represent UNLV women's track and field at the NCAA Outdoor West Regional Championships held in Eugene, Ore., at Hayward Field this Friday and Saturday as the Rebels look to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
The top five finishers from each individual regional event and the top three relays earn automatic invites to the NCAA Championships on June 8-11 in Sacramento, Calif.
Christine Spence, Halima Decree, Brittney Bullocks, Miesha McClendon, Michele Suszek and Deanna Appuglise all will run for UNLV as the Rebels have athletes in six different events along with the 4x100 meter relay.
Spence and DeCree represent UNLV's strongest chances of advancing to the NCAA Championships. DeCree has the second-fastest time in the 100 with an 11.25 and the seventh-fastest time in the 200 meters at 23.58. Spence, a two-time All-American, qualified in three events - both hurdle races and the high jump. She has the top time in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 57.30 and the eighth-fastest time in the 100 hurdles at 13.54. In the high jump she has cleared 1.81m, the fifth-highest mark at the West Regional. Both of them will also run legs on UNLV's 4x100 meter relay team, which comes into the meet with a qualifying time of 45.68, 14th in the region.
McClendon and Bullocks are also part of the relay team and Appuglise is an alternate on it. McClendon also qualified for the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 13.69, the 10th-fastest time in the field. Suszek earned a spot in the steeplechase with a time of 10:49.52, the 22nd-fastest time in the field.
