SUNRIVER, Ore. - The UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round 3-under-par 285 on Wednesday at the 17th annual NCAA PING/Golfweek Preview at Sunriver Resort's Crosswater Club (par 72, 7,671 yards) and finished in fourth place.
Georgia (284-284-277--845, -19) shot a tournament-low 11-under 277 during the final day of play and finished at 19-under 845. The Bulldogs ran away from the field and were 15 shots better than second-place Georgia Tech (294-284-282--860, -4). Oklahoma State (297-283-282--862, -2) finished third, followed by UNLV (290-292-285--867, +3), which shot its low round of the tournament on Wednesday and finished at 3-over 867. Duke (297-289-283--869, +5) rounded out the top five.
Individually, Georgia's Brian Harman (69-67-69--205, -11) and Oklahoma State's Pablo Martin (73-64-68--205, -11) were named co-champions after tying for the lead at 11-under 205. There was no playoff for the pair, who finished three shots ahead of Georgia Tech's Roberto Castro (73-67-68--208, -8) who finished third.
Freshman Seung-Su Han (69-69-76--214, -2) led all Rebel players by finishing tied for 13th at 2-under 214. Other Rebel scores: sophomore C.J. Gatto (76-75-68--219, +3; T22nd), freshman Blake Trimble (71-76-74--221, +5; T28th), senior Andres Gonzales (79-72-71--222, +6; T32nd) and sophomore Jarred Texter (74-78-72--224, +8); T43rd).
The tournament included the top 14 team finishers at the 2005 NCAA Championshps as well as Portland, which will serve as host of the 2006 NCAA Championships this spring. UNLV's next tournament will be at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational in Windermere, Fla., Oct. 23-25.
