The UNLV women's basketball team returns to action this Wednesday, on the road in Fort Collins against Colorado State at 6 pm (PST) in Moby Arena.
Sitting in a tie for third place in the Mountain West Conference standings at 2-1, the Lady Rebels hope to remain within striking distance of first place BYU with a win against Colorado State. However, Fort Collins has not been a very welcome place for UNLV recently, as they have lost five straight road games to the Rams, including last year's 69-66 loss on a three-point play with just three seconds to play. UNLV is also looking for its first conference road win of the year, after dropping a 77-58 contest at BYU on Jan. 11.
UNLV faces the league's top offense, as CSU averages 68.8 points per game. However, the Rams also allow a league-worst 72.8 ppg, and UNLV is 9-1 when scoring more than 60 points.
For the second straight game, UNLV is facing a team with a new coach, as Jen Warden is in her first year as the Rams' head coach after three years at Boise State. She currently has the Rams at 7-7 for the year, and 1-2 in league play, with the losses having come by 16 and 22 points.
Though the Lady Rebels' scoring has dropped off this season, with a 66.6 ppg average through 14 games to rank fifth in the MWC after leading the league in scoring in 2003-04 and 2004-05, UNLV is at the top of the league in several defensive categories. The Lady Rebels are currently leading the conference in blocks (4.71 bpg) and rebound margin (+8.7), and are second in steals (10.57 spg).
With their win over San Diego State, the Lady Rebels are now just five wins away from their 600th win in program history, a mark only 34 schools have reached in NCAA history.
