LAS VEGAS - UNLV freshman Natasha Krishna was part of the New Zealand team that finished seventh at the 22nd annual World Amateur Team Championship, held at De Zalze Golf Club and Stellenbosch Golf Club in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Krishna is the first Rebel golfer to ever play in the WATC.
South Africa won the event with a four-round total of 10-under 566, as the host nation won a tie breaker with Sweden, which also totaled a 10-under 566 at the four-day tournament. Caroline Westrup of Sweden won medalist honors with an eight-under score of 280. Each team, which had two or three players, played 18 holes of stroke play for four days. In each round, the total of the two lowest scores from each team constituted the team score for the round. The four-day (72-hole) total was the team's score for the championship.
New Zealand used two rounds from Krishna at the tournament, her one-over par 73 in the opening round and the same score in the final round. Krishna tied for 36th overall as an individual at the tournament, which ran from Oct. 18-21 and featured 42 different countries competing for the Espirito Santo Trophy.
"We were very excited that Natasha had the opportunity to represent her country in the World Amateur Team Championship," UNLV head coach Missy Ringler said. "She did well and it is such a great experience for her to be able to play in this event. We are also very excited to get her back in Las Vegas and continue with our season."
Krishna and the Rebels will be back in action next week, as they host the Las Vegas Founders Collegiate Open at Anthem Country Club on Oct. 30-Nov. 1.
