For the first time in four years, UNLV will open the regular season at home as it hosts Pepperdine in a televised contest (the mtn.) on Sunday afternoon in the Thomas & Mack Center at 2:30 pm. It will be a key game for both teams as well, as the Lady Rebels will be looking to make a statement that they are still a team to be feared despite losing 60% of its offense from last season's 18-12 squad. Meanwhile, the Waves, preseason-favorites in the West Coast Conference, will be looking for a win after falling at No. 14 Texas A&M 72-48 on Friday night. Both teams will be dealing with injury issues, as UNLV has three players out for Sunday's game, while the Waves are having injury problems of their own, including to a preseason all-conference selection.

UNLV will be looking to keep alive its winning streak in the Thomas & Mack Center, as the Lady Rebels have won 10 straight games over the past three years in the TMC. Included in that streak is an upset win over No. 21 New Mexico in the home finale last year. The 10-game win streak is the longest for UNLV in the TMC since winning 17 straight over a four year period between 1987-88 and 1990-91.
