Having completed a five-game homestand to begin the season, the Lady Rebels will now play two straight road games to begin the month of December, starting with Saturday's game at Southern Utah. UNLV will also play Long Beach State on the road on Dec. 9, before finishing December with five more games in Las Vegas.
The Lady Rebels come into Cedar City looking for a more consistent performance on offense after their two games in the Lady Rebel Shootout. UNLV scored a season high 70 in a 30-point win over Elon on Friday, but went 16 minutes without a field goal in its 68-51 loss to Wisconsin in the championship game. It is a young squad UNLV is putting on the court however, with two sophomores starting this year for the first time (Shamela Hampton, Brittany Halberg), while freshman guard Allison Holiday may also start on Saturday against the Thunderbirds.
The key once again will be to find more scoring options besides junior guard/forward Sequoia Holmes, who has two games of 20 or more points this year and ranks sixth in the league with 15.6 ppg. She's also a strong defensive player, ranking 15th in the nation with 3.6 steals per contest.
While a win Saturday would even UNLV's record at 3-3, Southern Utah is still looking for its first win over a Division I opponent this year. The Thunderbirds' closest game was also against a Mountain West team, as San Diego State held on for a 55-52 win on Nov. 24 in Cedar City.
