Coming off one of its most disappointing losses in years, the Lady Rebels hope to get back on a winning streak this Saturday when they take on one of their biggest rivals in school history in Long Beach State on Saturday at 4 pm in Long Beach.

For the first eight years of the Big West, UNLV and Long Beach State were the class of the conference, as the two teams each won four of the first eight regular season championships, and combined to win seven of the first eight Big West Tournament championships. LBSU actually held a 67-1 all-time record in Big West play until the 1989-90 season, when UNLV swept all three games against the 49ers, including the Big West championship by a 67-64 score. That UNLV team was just recently inducted into the UNLV Hall of Fame this past October.

Its a pair of very young teams that will face off this year however, as UNLV is playing four underclassmen in its seven-player rotation, and two of its top three scorers are sophomores. LBSU has even more inexperience in the lineup, as the Beach starts three freshman, and have a total of eight first-year players on the 16-player squad.

The key once again will be to find more scoring options besides junior guard/forward Sequoia Holmes, who has two games of 20 or more points this year and ranks sixth in the league with 15.6 ppg. She's also a strong defensive player, ranking 15th in the nation with 3.6 steals per contest.
