Final Stats

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV Rebels (5-4) jumped out early and often against UC Davis in game one of its two-game set, but fell behind by too much to Notre Dame in Saturday's action at the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic. UNLV run-ruled UC Davis (4-5) 10-0, but a rally attempt versus Notre Dame (2-2) came up short by two runs with a 6-4 final.

In the first game against the Aggies, UNLV played as the visiting squad and put three runs on the board in the first two innings and two more in each of the third and fifth frames. Becky McDonald (1-0) picked up the team's first shutout in a complete game effort. McDonald allowed six hits to the Aggies, while striking out six and walking one.

The Rebels racked up eight hits in the game with Marissa Nichols collecting three and Maggie Livreri two. Three players (Nichols, Rosa Ordaz and Jaci Hull) posted two RBI apiece.

In the game Hull hit her team-leading third home run to close out the Rebel scoring in the fifth.

In game two, Notre Dame put a five spot on the board in the third inning and one more in the fourth for a 6-0 lead. UNLV began its rally in the fourth with an apparent three-run home run down the left field line which hit off the foul pole, but the umpires ruled that the ball hit below the horizontal piping and turned the hit into a long single. Hull scored on the hit, while Brittany Freight stopped at second. Freight eventually scored on an RBI single by Nichols.

In the fifth, the Rebels hit a pair of back-to-back home runs for the second time on the year to bring the deficit to two runs. Freight took a two-out pitch down the right field line and was followed shortly thereafter by a ball hit by Caitlyn Paus.

Following the pair of homers UND replaced Brittney Barger (1-2) with Heather Booth. The reliever shut down the Rebel offense to notch her first save of the season. Christie Robinson (2-1) suffered her first defeat in only two innings of work. Crisp closed out the third and completed the game. She allowed only one run and five hits, while striking out 10.

The Rebels return to Eller Media Stadium for a two-game split doubleheader versus Kansas and #8/6 Cal. The game versus the Jayhawks begins at 11am with the Golden Bears following game one's conclusion.
