WAHIAWA, Hawaii - The seventh-ranked UNLV men's golf team is in 11th place, nine shots off the lead, after the first round at the John Burns Intercollegiate played at the Leilehua Golf Course (par 72, 6,917 yards) on Wednesday.
Auburn leads the field after firing an opening-round 15-under-par 273. Arizona is two shots back in second at 13-under, followed by Long Beach State and Colorado State, which are both tied for third at 11-under. BYU rounds out the top five at 10-under. UNLV finished the first day of play at 6-under 282.
Long Beach State's Brett Lederer holds the tournament's individual lead after shooting a 7-under 65. Bronson Burgoon from Texas A&M and Jay Moseley from Auburn are tied for second, one shot back at 6-under.
UNLV sophomores Jarred Texter and C.J. Gatto lead the Rebels after both shooting 2-under 70 to tie for 27th place. Senior Andres Gonzales and freshman Blake Trimble are both tied for 39th at 1-under, while Freshman Seung-Su Han is tied for 78th at 2-over 74.
The tournament, which includes 19 teams and 106 individuals, continues with 18 holes on Thursday and concludes with 18 more on Friday.
