LAS VEGAS - Make it four for four in the shutout department for the UNLV women's tennis team.
The 39th-ranked Lady Rebels did not lose a point en route to earning a 7-0 victory, this time over UC Riverside, on a sunny and warm Saturday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
UNLV (4-0) not only opened perfect through four matches for the first time ever but also posted four straight shutouts at any time of the season for the first time in program history.
The Lady Rebels began the morning by winning all three doubles matches for one team point and then did not lose more than three games in any one set after moving to singles play.
Super sophomore Elena Gantcheva, the nation's eighth-ranked player, improved to 20-5 with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Erynne Oki at the top spot.
Also moving to 4-0 in dual-match play were Nikol Dimitrova at No. 2, Sharon Marin on court three, Cindy Treber at No. 4, Claire Smith at No. 5 and Linda Tempelfelde on court six.
Next up, the Lady Rebels will hit the road for the first time this season, playing at top-ranked and defending national champion Stanford on Feb. 10 and then at No. 18 Cal the following day.
"This is a great start for our program but we have to get ready for one of the toughest road trips we've ever had," head coach Kevin Cory said. "It's nice to be 4-0 but now we have to take on two of the top teams in the nation."
