Final Stats
Fullerton, Calif. - The UNLV Rebels (13-17) dropped its first round game in the consolation bracket Saturday morning to the No. 24/23 Fresno State (18-11) 8-0 in five innings. The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the bottom half of the first after the Rebels left two runners on in the top of the inning. FS added a single run in the third and ended the game in the fifth with three runs.
The Rebels were out hit 12-2, but weren't without their opportunities to score as they left six runners on base (two each in the first, second and third innings).
Fresno State on the other hand got the most out of its runners, as eight scored and five were left on base (one when the game was called due to the run-rule).
Shannon Crisp (6-9) suffered the loss for UNLV as she allowed four runs on four hits. Crisp left the contest after recording only one out. Christie Robinson entered in relief and got the final two outs, while giving up a harmless single. Robinson pitched 4.1 innings. She allowed four runs to score in her time in the circle, but none of the four were earned. She gave up eight hits and one walk, but struck out four in the process.
In the first inning, FS notched back-to-back singles prior to its first out. A double by Kristin Sylvester plated Christina Clark and moved Haley Perkins to third. Nichole Willis emptied the bases with a three-run home run to left field. The home run brought about the switch in Rebel pitchers.
The Bulldogs added their fifth run in the third with help from two singles and an error.
In the fifth inning, Robinson got a foul out to start the frame for the first out. The next batter reached on an error and moved to second on a single to right. A passed ball advanced both runners into scoring position. A single to right field scored a run and put runners on the corners. Robinson then got a ground out for the second out. A single to right field plated the two base runners and thus ended the game.
Next up for UNLV is a 11:15 am contest against the loser of the #10/11 Louisiana-Lafayette and #11/10 Arizona State contest. The game, originally scheduled to be played at the Titan Softball Complex field #2, has been moved to Golden West Junior College in Huntington Beach.
